Re: RARE COIN'S "Help Me Out"
It would help if you would also include the lettering around the edges.
But looking at the eagle on the back side, I'm guessing an Austrian, Prussian or German coin. |
Re: RARE COIN'S "Help Me Out"
1780 Maria Theresa Silver Thaler

Re: RARE COIN'S "Help Me Out"
Not particularily rare by the way....the website above sells them for 12-14 bucks US. 800 million of them struck since 1780.....not counting the fake ones :D
The "thaler" is actually the root of the word we use as "dollar". |
Re: RARE COIN'S "Help Me Out"
They contain a little over 3/4 of an ounce of Silver, Gorilla.

Re: RARE COIN'S "Help Me Out"
I haven't a clue on that.....numismatics is NOT my thing. Return to Google and see what you find now that you have an idea what it is.
To me, if it weighs correct and tests out the .995 silver ( and how did you test it anyway ? ), then it's 3/4oz silver and worth 10 FRNs or so no matter what is stamped on it. |

Make life easy for yourself and just get these baby's Gorilla. |
Re: RARE COIN'S "Help Me Out"
Well, they could quite well be real.....if they were 'fakes', they probably would have faked the silver content, since the collector value doesn't seem to be very much above the metal value.
Also, apparently in the little I read on them, EVERY Maria Theresa Silver Thaler is dated 1780.....the date doesn't mean it was minted that year.....it's part of the design......like they had ONE die and they weren't changing it...ahahahahaa.... which means it could have been made any year in the last 200 or so. Probably also accounts for why they are just barely above melt value in uncirculated condition. |

I am sure that they are are real thalers. I have 10-15 of them. You can buy them at bullion prices, and they make a nice change of pace from generic rounds. |
